Aspect Ratios & Format Options
Choose the right aspect ratio for each platform: vertical, square, or horizontal videos
Selecting the correct aspect ratio ensures your video looks professional and performs well on your target platform. This guide covers how to change aspect ratios in the editor, which format to choose, and how to use multi-format export options.
Changing the Aspect Ratio
You can change your video's aspect ratio at any time during the editing process. The AI will automatically adapt your footage, text, and layout to fit the new dimensions.
Open your project in the Editor.
Locate the Formats dropdown menu in the top toolbar (often labeled with the current ratio like "16:9" or "9:16").
Select your desired aspect ratio from the list.
Review your video. The AI automatically centers active speakers and scales text, but you can make manual adjustments if needed.
Tip: When switching from horizontal (16:9) to vertical (9:16), the "AI Auto-Crop" feature automatically keeps the active speaker centered.
Choosing the Right Format
Use this guide to select the best aspect ratio for your destination platform:
9:16 Vertical (Portrait)
Best for: TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, Snapchat.
Why: Fills the entire mobile screen for maximum engagement.
1:1 Square
Best for: Instagram Feed, Facebook Feed, LinkedIn posts.
Why: Takes up more vertical space than landscape videos in a scrolling feed without being full-screen.
16:9 Horizontal (Landscape)
Best for: YouTube videos, websites, presentations, TV.
Why: The standard format for traditional video players and desktop viewing.
4:5 Vertical
Best for: Instagram and Facebook feeds (optimized for mobile scrolling).
Export Settings
When you click Export, you can configure quality settings to match your needs:
Resolution: Choose from 720p (HD) up to 2160p (4K). Note: 4K export requires specific plan credits.
Frame Rate (FPS): Select 24, 30, or 60 FPS. Higher frame rates (60 FPS) provide smoother motion but larger file sizes.
Compression: Adjust between High, Medium, or Low compression to balance quality vs. file size.
Multi-Format Export
There are two ways to handle multiple formats depending on your workflow:
1. Manual Editor (Single Export)
In the standard editor, you export one format at a time. To create multiple versions of the same video (e.g., one for YouTube and one for TikTok):
Set the ratio to 16:9 and export.
Change the ratio to 9:16 using the Formats dropdown.
Review the AI adaptation and export again.
2. Automations (Batch Export)
If you use the Automations feature (e.g., "YouTube to Short" workflows), you can generate multiple formats simultaneously.
In your Automation settings, select all the formats you want (e.g., check both 9:16 and 1:1). The system will automatically generate and export a version for each selected ratio whenever the automation runs.
Note: Simultaneous multi-format export is a premium feature available specifically for automated workflows.
